Self Care: What are you doing for you today?

I honestly cannot stress enough the importance of self care, especially for Moms and Moms to be. We are usually so consumed with trying to take care of everyone but ourselves and once we do get a second to ourselves we are too tired to do anything … I know that is how I’ve felt more often than I can count. For the longest time I thought taking care of my physical appearance was sufficient: work out, keto diet, work out some more, contemplate my hair  etc. etc. But I soon realized that while taking care of yourself physically is important and does make you feel better for sure, but taking care of ourselves mentally is the key to the much needed inner calm. I know if I feel better mentally I can be a better Mom and Wife. I just feel rejuvenated and fresh! I also know that it is easier said than done … But let’s start with baby steps. I will be posting more about self care in the future because one blog post will not do it justice. This post will focus on the little steps that we can start taking today! Wether that is taking a moment to read a book, paint your nails, wear a facial mask, watch a TV show, yoga, gardening, or going for a quick walk. For the record, I am not talking about taking the time to pay your bills or cleaning and organizing around the house because it is important do something that you really enjoy, unless you love nothing more than paying your bills in which case, by all means, do just that! The point is just do something that you love even if it is for 10 minutes. Your task for today is a) find something you enjoy and b) dedicate 10 minutes to it and don’t think about anything else.

For those Moms who have experienced a miscarriage or are going through fertility treatments, I know it can feel difficult to focus on something positive when you are feeling defeated and drained, but trust me when you do focus on something positive by doing something that makes you happy it will - truly will - help your mood; I know it helped me a great deal. In my case, I would just go for a walk to clear my mind, would use various grounding techniques and spend quality time with my family. My question to all the Moms and Moms to be out there is: What is the one little thing you are going to do today for yourself? It can be anything. Let’s start small and work our way up, because once we get in the habit of taking a little time out of our day to do something for us, we will feel recharged and be able to take better care of our children and families.

P.S. We are also our children’s role models and once they see that we are taking time to take care of ourselves they will learn the habit at a young age and make it part of their routine so when they are older they will know how important it is to care for their inner self. My little kiddo is the case in point; she loves to do yoga with her daddy and it is something that she looks forward to daily.

Until next time.

Yours truly,

Ava xo
